About personal time

Everybody tells me that “everyone needs some time away from work” and that I shouldn’t spend too much of my personal time on work assignments. These are things I don’t understand because of just one problem. I happen to like what I do! When I look forward to being done with work it’s so I can work on another assignment that’s close to the same or surprisingly different from the daily work assignment. Either that or I am looking forward (!) to doing homework that just so happens to resemble a lot of the current “work” I do for my job.

The one thing I had been looking forward to doing in my personal time was an article on this blog about Web 2.0 design and specifically logo design. Written for a slightly more out-of-the-loop audience, this article is supposed to explain the ways that the Web 2.0 phenomenon is causing people to see design in a whole new way. The trends towards shiny, grunge or organic sites are huge and inspiring. I hope to show the audience some examples of these as well as showcasing my own attempts at using these popular styles.

This is something “personal time” (whatever that is) has prevented me from doing. I apologize for the delay, but a delay there shall be!

Ha, and I had the best intentions of posting more in April too. Tsk tsk.

April Fools

Sometimes April Fools can be scary on the internet. Take XKCD this morning! Nooo! Don’t alter the content of my favorite web comic! It would be just as sad, or maybe sadder than that dip in quality just after Red vs. Blue (I would link, but it seems like their site might be down. Maybe I’m out of the loop and it’s something much much worse.) sold out to Bungie. The bleeped out all the bad words and the episodes just weren’t as funny anymore. I’m told they got better after awhile, but I haven’t been paying too much attention lately.

Recently I heard someone talking about how people should be careful about what they write on the internet because employers will often do research on the interwebz before hiring somebody. This XKCD refers to just that. I like posting links to my favorite web comic ever.

I’ve been busy with video editing the past couple of days and in the downtime during renders and captures I’ve been exploring Virb.com I mentioned it before, but I’m really starting to gain more respect for it after learning about all the features and customizing my profile. It seems very efficiently created with thought given to the modular layout that people would want to customize. Nobody I have seen has done anything garish with their profile yet, but with a simple CSS style switcher, Virb.com allows you to view anyone’s profile without the awful colors they selected and revert everything to the defaults. I expect it will get closer and closer to becoming a graceful version of MySpace. Tee hee. Check out my profile.

Wow. I have to change my WP profile again this morning – when I read my own blog the style reminds me of those search landing pages you get when you mistype an address! I guess I have a short attention span for style. Look for increased updates in the month of April!
